Kew Living & Giving Shop
Opening hours: Wed-Sat 10am-6pm, Sun 11-5pm
Our 21st Mary's Living and Giving Shop for Save the Children opened its doors in the heart of Kew Village on the 2nd December 2016.
Taking inspiration from the surrounding glass houses, designer Hannah Rampley and SFD, the retail creative organisation, collaborated with the Mary's Living & Giving team, to create a store design that celebrates the areas floral beauty and botanical habitat. Aiming to create a snapshot of life inside the glasshouses, Hannah designed a mural wall and tropical birds which she imagined would live in the original environments.
The shopfront design is inspired by the Palm House of the famous botanical gardens, with an applied artwork framing the mannequins and views into the store. References can be found subtly throughout, with terrariums, pressed flower motifs and nature-inspired fittings.
Selling an array of fabulous designer pieces, coupled with gorgeous high street styles, the Kew Village shop is a perfect place to find that hidden gem.
Director of Kew Gardens, Richard Deverell, said:
"I was delighted to be asked to open the Mary's Living and Giving store in Kew Village. I say this partly because I have long been a supporter of Save the Children. It does essential work that directly benefits some of our most vulnerable children, both in the UK and around the world. It is also a robust, passionate and determined advocate for children’s rights and for children’s voices to be heard".
"The design of the new Marys Living and Giving is modern and welcoming and nods elegantly to the heritage of the great glasshouses at Kew Gardens. It therefore deftly avoids the anonymity of a chain and has rooted itself in our community, in Kew".
"The services they provide, including employment and opportunities to volunteer, are an essential and greatly valued element of a vibrant community".
Mary’s Living & Giving Shop for Save the Children is appealing for donations and local volunteers to work in the shop.
