Newsletter February 2009

Welcome to Eye to Eye in February

Teachers' positive engagement with the Eye to Eye resources continues to build further opportunities for teaching about global issues in the classroom. This issue sees new photos by UK students and shows how you can be involved in sustaining the legacy of Eye to Eye in your schools. Many Eye to Eye resources are now up on our website, with others following shortly. You can also now order HARD COPIES free of charge using our online order form.

Coming to your school

Resources sent to and presented in your school

We now have more and more resources online and we also have an online order form where you can order hard copies (see intro above) and a free DVD of the films, posters and lots more. We would also like to come to your school and present the final Eye to Eye resources. Download this ready made “sign up” poster for your staffroom or ask us to send you one. Also email if you want to have the Eye to Eye exhibition in your school your school. It must be in February or March.

Project to end but learning and action to go on…

Eye to Eye will officially end on 31March but feedback from UK teachers has shown the desire to keep on sharing with each other through a ''global dimension network'. Let us know if you think this is something you'd be interested in, and more news in next e-news. The Eye to Eye resources will still be online for at least the rest of the academic year....why not go and look at the resources now!

Finalising resources - students needed

The dramatic monologue lessons for English are needing a short clip of a student doing a dramatic monologue which might be uploaded (we can do this for you) online for use in class. We have a script. Similarly we urgently need a male and a female student (preferably Year 8/9) to read voiceover for our Eye to Eye animation - this is another chance for stardom! - so if you have a student who can bring to life written script/text please let us know.

New UK photos on Eye to Eye website

New sets of photographs have been added to the site which were taken by year 8 Geography students at Abraham Moss High School in Manchester and Lymm High School in Lymm, Cheshire:

Spanish resources

There are now Spanish resources on the website - why not try out this verb skeleton in one of your classes. The resources on line in our resources section offer vocab work, agreements and colours revision. All with the lively Eye to Eye photos. They were created by Roya Dabir Alai and Anne-Claire Edynbry and we are hoping that other Spanish teachers will respond to them.

Films

Slumdog Millionaire and Eye to Eye
- film portraits of India

The new film by Trainspotting director Danny Boyle has taken the box office by storm and has been met with critical acclaim and awards nominations. The Eye to Eye films include a portrayal of life for a young worker in a similarly poor area of Kolkata, and many of the Eye to Eye participants from India live in 'slums' similar to those in the film. You can order your own DVD copy for FREE. There are accompanying activities on our website.

Feeding back to the children

We are going to be telling the young people from Pakistan, India, South Africa and Bolivia about how you have found the project. We would love to pass on your messages directly to them, from yourselves or from your students. Please send these in the next few weeks. You can read and/or print some of the children's stories by going to the resources section of the website.
