"I am amazed by the generosity of the people of Manchester this morning, people were hanging out of windows throwing down cash," said David Threlfall, who plays Frank Gallagher.

In the first half hour the cast raised £400 for the victims of the floods in Pakistan, Bangladesh and India.

"This is the first time so many of the Shameless cast have been in one place doing something like this and it was great to be able to slip out from filming and do our bit for Save the Children and the children affected by flooding in South Asia. Not everyone will have seen us out collecting today but you can still make a donation by visiting the Save the Children web-site," said Threlfall.

Save the Children has launched an emergency appeal for £2 million to help children in South Asia who have been hit by the floods. Save the Children is working in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, the three most flood-affected countries, providing shelter, clean water, healthcare hygiene equipment and school supplies for more than 15,000 families.
