Harvest hunger

When food prices go up, poor families suffer. In northern Ethiopia, most poor households produce their own food on their own small farms — but they don’t have enough to last the whole year. When their food runs out, they need to buy food to survive until the next harvest.

Wheat prices have soared so high, it would now take 60% of a family’s income just to buy 7% of the food they need.

Hold a collection for Save the Children this harvest and help the poorest children get the food they need to survive.

Image of foodHunger hits children first and it hits them hardest. The food crisis has left some of the poorest families in Ethiopia struggling to survive on wild nettles. We’re helping the hardest-hit communities with food, clean water and life-saving healthcare. We’re also helping families grow more crops and keep their livestock healthy.

The solutions are simple: Image of food

  • £10 feeds a malnourished child for a month.
  • £90 buys six goats so a family has milk and meat for their children, and so they can earn money by selling what’s left over.
  • £250 sends a farmer on a 45-day training course to find new ways to generate income.
  • £1500 builds a well with enough water for 500 people and 4000 animals. Image of food
