Policy Brief: G20, 2009

‘Whatever it takes’ – Protecting children from the effects of the global financial crisis.

Published
March 2009

The global financial crisis may have started in the US and other developed economies, but it is having a serious impact on some of the world’s poorest countries and people, especially children.

It has been estimated that the crisis could push an additional 46 million people into poverty in 2009 alone and around half of these are likely to be children.

When leaders of the G20 meet in London in April, they need to look beyond the problems affecting their own economies and recognise their wider interests and obligations to those people who are least able to cope with the effects of the crisis.
