In the Face of Disaster: Children and climate change
This report explores the potential impact of climate change and natural disasters on children and how the risks of disasters can be reduced.
June 2008
In the Face of Disaster explores the potential impact of climate change and natural disasters on children — in particular on their health, nutrition, protection and education.
It looks at disaster risk reduction, and the importance of involving children and communities in these strategies. Given the increase in natural disasters as a result of climate change, the report looks at the need to increase humanitarian response for children in disasters.
The report shows that children are not merely victims of natural disasters — our experience in disaster risk reduction shows how children can help protect themselves, their families and communities in the face of disaster.
