National conference
Each year Save the Children organises a national conference bringing together early years practitioners from a range of services. The day is a mix of speakers and workshops as well as providing time for practice sharing and networking.
This year's event was held on 11 June 2008 in central Birmingham. The conference and evaluation papers wll be available shortly.
The 2007 conference evaluation and papers (PDF 102KB) are available.
Training
Save the Children delivers free cultural awareness and early years inclusion training sessions in Doncaster (PDF 156KB) and the London Borough of Newham (PDF 262KB).
We work closely with the Ethnic Minority Traveller Achievement Service and Traveller Education Service in each area. Each training session is delivered by a Save the Children staff member with a community member co-presenting.
For practitioners delivering their own training in Gypsy, Roma and Traveller culture for early years settings, we provide a training pack. You can use this toolkit as a complete package or use exercises from it separately to develop your existing programme. The training pack contains full supporting notes as well as information on the need for training and tips on delivery of a training session. There are also examples of learning agreements and session evaluations.
We may also be able to help develop the training skills of those delivering training in Gypsy, Roma and Traveller culture for Early Years settings. We run a limited number of Train the Trainer courses which we can deliver throughout England. Contact us on 0113 388 8653 or email h.farley@savethechildren.org.uk.
