We have a proud history of pioneering breakthroughs which have transformed the lives of millions of children and changed the way all children's charities approach development and humanitarian work.
Our overall annual expenditure

Our overall annual expenditure in the year 1 April 2006 to 31 March 2007 breaks down as follows:
- 83.7% (£117.1m) on charitable activities
- 11.1% (£15.6m) on fundraising
- 4.7% (£6.5m) on retail
- 0.5% (£0.7m) on governance.

How we raised £148.4 million, our total income
In the year 1 April 2006 to 31 March 2007, we raised £148.4 million, the second highest level of income ever raised by Save the Children.
The previous year, we had raised the highest amount ever - £163.2 million - because of the responses to the tsunami and other emergency appeals. This year, funding for our long-term development work, excluding emergencies, increased by 4%. Our income breaks down as follows:

- 43.3% (£64.2m) from donations and gifts
- 36.8% (£54.6m) from grants
- 9.1% (£13.5m) from legacies
- 4.8% (£7.1m) from retailing activities
- 2.1% (£3.1m) from gifts in kind
- 3.9% (£5.9m) from other sources
