All over the world, and in many different exciting ways, celebrities and high-profile personalities have been helping us in our campaign to save children's lives.
We’d like to thank each and EVERY ONE of our supporters for dedicating their time to help get the message heard — that every child deserves to live, wherever they’re born, whoever they are.
Over the past year, Mischa Barton, Davina McCall, Mario Testino, Amanda Mealing, Blue Peter presenters Andy Akinwolere and Helen Skelton, Paul O'Grady and a reporter from his show, Doris Shawcross, have all seen our life-saving work first hand. Other celebrities have given us their thumbprints, making their unique mark to show their support.
Actress Emma Thompson has spoken out on behalf of children all over the world.
Actor and comedian Hugh Dennis says, “Every child deserves the right to life. I would happily give up a cup of tea or a meal if it could save a child’s life. The British public has shown that a lot of them would do the same. Now is the time to act on this. As a father myself, I find it inexcusable that nearly 4 million babies die each year in the first month of their lives; often from preventable diseases. We must take action now to tackle this problem. EVERY ONE of us.”
Musician Midge Ure says, “It’s a tragedy that nearly nine million children die before their fifth birthday each year but what’s even more shocking is that we could easily prevent most of these deaths. The British public have shown what they are prepared to do to save a child’s life. Now we’re calling on world leaders and governments to do the same. Every child has the right to live and EVERY ONE of us has a responsibility to act.’
Actress Julie Walters says “It’s a shocking statistic but nearly 4 million babies die each year in the first month of their life. Half of those die within the first 24 hours. Most of these babies die from preventable and treatable causes. Less than £8 will buy you a Newborn Care Kit which will stop this from happening.”
Welsh actor Kai Owen, star of sci-fi series ‘Torchwood’, said: "I agree that politicians world-wide have a lot to do — and that doing nothing can cost the life of an innocent child. That’s why I’m supporting Save the Children’s global campaign. Every child should have access to clean water, healthcare and a happy life and I hope that the people of Wales will join me in this campaign. Each and every one of us has our part to play."
Presenter Lauren Laverne says, “If you were to multiply the population of Sunderland eleven times, that equates to the number of newborn babies that die each year on their first day of life because they aren't given the right care at birth. That's devastating. We need to tackle this problem together to stop every one of these children dying.’
“Can you imagine a child in this country being allowed to die of diarrhoea? Can you imagine a child in this country being allowed to die because its parents couldn't afford £15? Please join this campaign and help us change the status quo.” said Emma Thompson, one of many high-profile supporters to lend us support.
We hope you’ll be inspired to support our EVERY ONE campaign too — you’ll be in good company! Huge thanks to:
