Celebrity campaigners join campers at Bestival
This weekend thousands of festival goers will ‘Make their Mark’ as part of Save the Children’s biggest ever campaign to stop children dying.
Friday 24 July 2009
Top acts including Florence Welch aka Florence and the Machine, VV Brown and Tinchy Stryder, all appearing at Camp Bestival, have already joined Make Your Mark, Save the Children’s new global campaign.
Make Your Mark is a global campaign petitioning governments to reduce the number of children under five that die each year of easily preventable diseases.
Visitors to Camp Bestival will have the opportunity to ‘Make their Mark’ at the Save the Children stand in the ‘Kids Garden’. In a simple action festival goers can dip their thumb in ink and make their mark on giant canvasses. This is a unique symbol of support for children around the world who are malnourished, lacking proper healthcare and clean drinking water or are at risk when a natural disaster or emergency strikes.
Over 200,000 individuals have already taken part by making a thumb print to mark their support. KT Tunstall, Blur’s Graham Coxon, Pixie Geldof, Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand, Jack Penate and The View have already made their mark.

Camp Bestival will take place on 24, 25, 26 July at Lulworth Castle in Dorset. Save the Children is asking 60 million people around the world to take action and to call on political world leaders to keep their promise to reduce child mortality by two thirds by 2010.
All thumb prints collected at Camp Bestival will be presented to the UK Government to press them to make critical policy changes that directly impact children’s lives.
