Be happy with School Link's Friendship Friday

Save the Children's latest research shows that spending time with friends is what makes us happy.

Monday 22 January 2007

Monday the 22nd January is officially the most depressing day of the year.

Save the Children's latest research shows that spending time with friends is what makes us happy.

When Save the Children surveyed a group of children in the UK it wasn't shopping or expensive visits to attractions that made them happy, it was simply spending time with friends. When adults were asked the same question they too felt it was friends that cheered them up. So don't feel down, beat the winter blues and get your friends round.

Rosie Jordan from Save the Children said 'Friendships and spending time with your friends is really important to everyone of all ages. With Save the Childrens School Link children can learn, in a fun way, about other children from around the world understanding both their differences and their similarities.'

Later on this year Save the Children will benefit from Friendship Friday a fundraising day for children to celebrate friendship and learn about their peers throughout the world. To find out more about Friendship Friday visit http://www.school-link.org.uk

The interviewees (children 7-14) were asked 'What makes you most happy?'

  • Going Shopping 5%
  • Playing Sports 26%
  • Going to the Cinema 16%
  • Spending Time with Friends 34%
  • Going to Attractions 10%
