FAIR INSTANT supports Save the Children
FAIR INSTANT coffee gives Colombian children a fair chance to go to school.
Tuesday 20 February 2007
FAIR INSTANT is a new Fairtrade instant coffee brand which aims to raise £200,000 for Save the Children.
FAIR INSTANT guarantees growers a minimum price for their coffee and contributes to local social funds through the Fairtrade social premium.
In addition, FAIR INSTANT will donate 20p from each jar to Save the Children's programme in Colombia.
The right to go to school is something taken for granted when growing up. However, over 40 million of today's children are being denied this right because they live in countries affected by conflict. Countries like Colombia, where around 3 million 5-15 years olds don't go to school. Through our partnership with FAIR INSTANT Save the the Children will impact 10,000 children in Colombia. By investing in schools, providing teaching and learning materials and training teachers, Save the Children and FAIR INSTANT will ensure that children get a good quality education, keeping them safe, happy and giving them hope for the future.
With the money raised from this partnership Save the Children will give children in schools essential school kits containing pens and paper, a pencil sharpener, a rubber and a gym kit. As well as provide teacher training to improve the curriculum. In other cases where there is a need the money raised will provide essential school equipment for example, blackboards, radios, libraries and toys.
Save the Children will also:
- ensure the hardest to reach children go to school
- work with the local education authority to ensure funding for education is increased
- raising awareness among parents of the importance of birth registration for children to have an identity - enabling them to enrol in schools.
Austin Sugarman, Sales and Marketing Director, FFI the coffee people, comments: "To be able to offer consumers great tasting coffee which not only benefits growers, but also those children who need it most and at no additional cost, is without question the most exciting project we have been involved with. We are aiming to raise much more money over the next few years in order to give our support to other coffee growing areas. I am sure that British coffee drinkers will love it."
Tanya Steele, Director of Supporter Relations and Fundraising, Save the Children, comments: "Fair Instant will enable more children to go to school who wouldn't otherwise get the opportunity. An education will create a huge change to these children's lives, helping to lift them and their families out of poverty."
