This year was a particularly important conference season, as it was the last season before a General Election next year. This made all the conferences a hub of ideas and policies that each political party wanted to debate before finalising their manifestos.
Liberal Democrat Party conference
We were involved with an event titled ‘Can We Afford Internationalism,’ as well as a reception about climate change.
Labour Party conference
We organised a reception where Foreign Secretary David Miliband, Secretary of State for International Development Douglas Alexander, and our CEO Jasmine Whitbread spoke about the global challenges that the UK government is currently facing, and the need to put children at the heart of foreign and international development policy.
Holby City actor Amanda Mealing also spoke about her recent trip to Bangladesh. Watch her interviewing Douglas Alexander and Ed Miliband in Bangladesh.
Nearly 200 people attended the reception including Ministers, MPs, Councillors, businesses, NGOs and Party members. We also held a policy breakfast with young people from Newham and a number of fringe events, one on global governance, and one with the other major International Development NGOs on development commitments in an election year.
Conservative Party conference
We held a reception with the Shadow Secretary of State for International Development, Andrew Mitchell, a policy breakfast with young people from Bradford, fringe events on global governance and the impact of business on development.
