Knit One Save One

The knit one save one campaign has now finished. Please don't send in any more hats.

Knit One Save One message album

We made this book of some of our favourite letters, images and moments from the knitting campaign.

See what knitters think the Prime Minister should be doing to save 9.2 million children under the age of five, who die each year from preventable and treatable causes.

A source at 10 Downing Street told us that Gordon Brown had read the book and even used one of the letters in a speech he gave to Labour Women! You can find the letter he read out on the back page.

Browse the brilliant book.

Read the government's response to the campaign. The Department for International Development published this in response to your messages.

Thank you

Thank you so much for being part of a wonderful campaign. Since Paul O'Grady launched the campaign back in April, the response has been overwhelming and we wanted to share some of the successes with you:

  • We received over 800,000 hats and have delivered most of these to countries such as Bangladesh, Egypt, Brazil and Tibet - that's a lot of vulnerable babies who now have a better chance of survival.
  • People have written more than 50,000 heartfelt messages to Gordon Brown.  These were delivered, along with the message album to Gordon Brown on 13 November 2008.
  • More than 50 MPs got involved with the campaign and many held Knit One, Save One events in their own constituencies.

Dr Dorjee, who work for Save the Children in Tibet, said: "We rarely put hats on babies. This...is responsible for many preventable child deaths. I believe the hats will save many lives."

We are incredibly proud of these achievements and, as a Save the Children supporter, you should be too. Have a look at the photo story below to see how much impact simple hats and message have had. We hope this will inspire you to get involved in future campaigning. As you can see, campaigning really can make a difference to children's lives.
