Mary Portas opens Britain’s most stylish charity shop
TV retail advisor and Save the Children Ambassador, Mary Portas has opened her first boutique style charity shop in Stockbridge, Edinburgh - just in time for Christmas.
Mary’s ‘Living and Giving Shop for Save the Children’ opened on Saturday 21 November at 10am. Queues for the shop snaked down the high street as savvy fashionistas made a bee line for the boutique charity shop.
Mary said: “This is shop for everyone we want it be a place that will inspire Edinburgh give. The designer bargains in our charity shop are fantastic and store has potential to attract people from across the whole of Scotland. We want to create a real buzz around second-hand shopping and make the old fashioned charity shop a thing of the past. It may seem crazy to sell such quality goods at reasonable prices, but the money raised will be well spent and it costs as little as £5 to save a child’s life”.
There will also be the opportunity for local artisans to sell their wares on a 50/50 basis. We want the finest of Scotland to be represented in the shop, so if you make clothes, accessories, bake, paint or recycle we have space in the shop for you to sell it. You will get 50% of the sales and you will donate the other 50% to Save the Children. A great way to start a new business or find new customers.
This shop will be for local people, run by local people, so if you have time on you hands why not volunteer your time? And don't forget to keep your wardrobe and cupboard neutral; if you replace something in your wardrobe and cupboards with something new, remember to donate to Mary’s shop.
