Immigration Law
Immigration law sets out the conditions which apply to non-British citizens who wish to come to and/or remain in the UK. Legislation is now the most important source of law, and the cornerstone of modern immigration law is the Immigration Act 1971. A new statute about asylum and immigration appears at least every two or three years, and recent legislation has brought asylum and immigration closer together, particularly when it comes to the law about illegal entry, enforcement and control. British immigration and asylum law is also becoming more integrated with European Community law about the free movement of persons and asylum in the European Union. This website deals primarily with asylum law.
