We are having a conference to 'open' general public minds on issues faced by young Asylum Seekers and Refugees in the UK. The conference is for people who are in a position to make real change and make a positive impact in the lives of young people.

The aims of our conference are to:

  • Influence decision-makers to make changes in policies
  • Promote Brighter Futures and our campaigns to a national level
  • Raise awareness and change people's attitudes to Asylum Seekers

Brighter Futures is made up of three self-advocacy groups in Tees Valley, Manchester and London. We are young asylum seekers and refugees who campaign on issues that are important to us.

The three groups identified key issues that affect us as a group in the various regions we live in.

Brighter Futures Manchester

"We call for change in Higher Education policies to enrol Asylum Seekers as home students and to join college without the current 6 months wait."

Brighter Futures London

"We call for the Right to Work for asylum seekers after they have been in the UK for 6 months, and for clear information and documentation to be provided."

Brighter Futures Tees Valley

"We call for Local Education Authorities to promote best practice to challenge and reduce racist bullying in schools."

The Brighter Futures conference will be run by young asylum seekers and refugees, and will include presentations, workshops and discussions on key issues of policy and practice with senior decision-makers in the UK.

Brighter Futures has already had big successes with impacts on policy and practice across England - we want you to be a part of our success in the future!
