East Africa Appeal: blogging activism – add your voice

Tuesday 5 July 2011

Following my presentation on blogging activism at last weeks Cybermummy conference lots of people have been tweeting me to say; ‘I want to help – what can I do?’

The simple answer is lend us your voice.

We’re building a movement. A movement of people who can help us blog, tweet and Facebook about our life-saving work.

And we need you now.

As the humanitarian crisis unfolds in East Africa we’re looking for bloggers and tweeters to help us spread the word.

We’ve launched a £40 million emergency appeal to get life-saving help to thousands of Kenyan and Somali children who are facing starvation in what the UN has called East Africa’s worst drought in 60 years.

More than a quarter of children in the worst-hit parts of Kenya are now dangerously malnourished, and in Somalia malnutrition rates have reached 30 per cent in some areas, making East Africa one of the hungriest places on earth.

We’re already on the ground distributing water and food and treating children in our clinics.

We can stop this tragedy unfolding, but we only have half the money we need. We urgently need to raise the rest so we can save more children’s lives.

Helping us to spread the word about our appeal can be as easy as a tweet or sharing a link in Facebook. And if you wanted to write a blog post about it we’d be thrilled! (details below).

I was so privileged to talk about blogging activism at the Cybermummy conference and I’m really proud to have already worked with some amazing blogging ladies for both Blogladesh and Passiton.

Every tweet, blog post, facebook update counts – because it helps to spread the word.

Communication has changed – we’re all content producers, we’re all publishers and that means we all have a voice.

You have a voice – and people are listening.
