Ivory Coast Appeal
Many thanks to all of you who supported our Ivory Coast Appeal. In the violence that followed the disputed 2010 presidential election, more than 500,000 children were driven from their homes. Thanks to you, we were able to help hundreds of thousands of children across the West African country
What you help achieve
- Since the beginning of our emergency response, 20,728 patients have received treatment in health facilities supported by Save the Children.
- During the emergency we established 53 safe areas for children to play and learn which were used by 15,000 children.
- We also set up 25 temporary schools near to where displaced people had sought refuge.
- 10,301 children used our safe, temporary schools.
- 9,000 school kits have been distributed, enabling children to return to school and 40,000 people have been targeted by the Back to School campaign.
- We're now operating 19 health centres and 6 mobile clinics which are now equipped to treat moderate acute malnutrition.
- 142,777 children have been vaccinated against polio.
- Over 15,000 people have been trained on how to use mosquito nets in a bid to cut down malaria during the rainy season.
- In the west of the country, 38 health centres, schools and safe child play areas have been provided with clean water supply, adequate sanitation, and appropriate waste disposal.
- 45,639 displaced people are currently receiving clean water, sanitation or hygiene help in camps or in the host communities in which they're staying.
- Save the Children has also repaired 19 schools that were damaged in the conflict. In the south, our teams are currently rehabilitating 19 schools with latrines and water points.
All this has only been possible thanks to your support - so thank you again.
Preparing for the next time
The quicker we can respond to an emergency like Ivory Coast's post-election violence or Japan's tsunami, the faster we can reach children who need our help.
That's why we've set up the Children's Emergency Fund which allows us to act as soon as disaster or war strike.
Please help us prepare for the next time by donating to the fund.
